Luter, III College of Business & Leadership has won the coveted Gold award (first place) in the 2009 Collegiate MAXI (Marketing Award for Excellence and Innovation) Competition sponsored by the Direct Marketing Association of Washington Educational Foundation (DMAWEF.)

The Collegiate MAXI competition is a top-flight opportunity for students to turn theory into practice by developing an actual direct marketing campaign for a real corporate sponsor. This year’s corporate sponsor of the competition was Scholastic, the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books and a leader in educational technology. The MAXI competition is held in conjunction with the National Collegiate ECHO competition sponsored by the Direct Marketing Association Educational Foundation. This year's CNU student team was also recognized with the Guy Yolton Award for developing the most creative direct mail campaign.

Dr. David L. Cleeton, Dean of the College of Business & Leadership remarked: "Luter College students continue to objectively demonstrate unrivaled degrees of professionalism in their co-curricular activities. The 2009 Collegiate MAXI award is an important confirmation of this long established and continuing tradition at CNU. We are proud both of our student achievements and offer praise to the dedicated guidance and leadership shown by key faculty members like Dr. Spiller in adding significant value to undergraduate student learning."

The CNU student team was comprised of Abigail Lillis, Megan Miles, Maygon Sowder and Laura Thompson. The faculty advisor of the team was Dr. Lisa Spiller, a marketing professor at CNU.

The MAXI competition is the most prestigious and competitive marketing award offered in the mid-Atlantic region. It was established in 1993 by the DMAW Educational Foundation and has become both a symbol and a goal for bright and aspiring college students. Students from colleges and universities across Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia compete in this annual competition.

The presentation of the Collegiate MAXI award to the CNU team and faculty advisor will be a featured part of the DMAWEF awards ceremony to be held in July at the 2009 Bridge Conference in Washington, D.C.
