(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) - Christopher Newport University has announced the launch of a new suite of tools, "CNU Connect," powered by Google to replace existing campus Internet applications. The tools will tie students, faculty and staff to e-mail, appointments, group research, study parameters, courses, finances and friends on a 24-7 basis.

"With its sophisticated and dynamic array of cutting-edge connectivity and integrated productivity tools, CNU Connect offers exceptional convenience and flexibility while positioning the University to quickly adapt to changes in new technology," said William Brauer, CNU's executive vice president.

The new applications include Gmail (webmail services), Google Calendar (shared calendaring), Google Talk (instant messaging), Google Docs (online document creation & sharing) as well as administrative and customer support tools.

Connect has become the latest college standard for all official student communication, providing campuses with online website and document creation tools that offer real-time sharing and editing as well as worry-free, across-the-board compatibility.

Google Marketing Manager Miriam Schneider noted, "Basically, it enables students to live their lives online. So they have a hosted set of communication tools, everything is saved online, they don't have to worry about flash drives, they don't have to worry about sharing revisions of documents back and forth- everything is in the cloud."

"CNU Connect" replaces the Webmail and Legacy portal tools for all students, faculty and staff.
