(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) - Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda, Virginia’s poet laureate from 2006-2008, will speak about the exchange of arts information and perspectives at the Friends of the Trible Library event on Thursday, September 17 at 4 p.m. The lecture will take place in the Paul & Rosemary Trible Library’s Blechman Room. The event is free and open to the public. No reservation is required.
Kreiter-Foronda is a poet, painter, sculptor and lifelong educator. She has published four books of verse, articles on writing, and book chapters on poetry and thinking skills. Her works have appeared in such publications as Nimrod International Journal, The Ledge, Blood to Remember: American Poets on the Holocaust, Dominion Review and Hispanic Culture Review, among countless others.
In addition, Kreiter-Foronda’s poetry has received several Pushcart Prize nominations, an Edgar Allan Poe first-place award, and three Artist-in-Education grants and one Arts-on-the-Road grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. For her contributions to American literature, she was named a Virginia cultural laureate in 1992. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. from George Mason University, where she received the school’s first doctorate.
