(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) - Christopher Newport University's Program in International Conflict Management will host a lecture entitled: Obama, Israel and the Palestinians, featuring guest speaker Mr. Robert Malley, Program Director of the International Crisis Group, Middle East and North Africa. The lecture will take place on Wednesday, September 16 at 6 p.m. in the David Student Union’s Washington Room. The lecture is free and open to the public. No reservation is required, however seating is limited.
Guest speaker Robert Malley directs analysts based in Amman, Cairo, Beirut, Tel Aviv and Baghdad to report on the political, social and economic factors affecting the risk of conflict and make policy recommendations to address these threats. The team covers events from Iran to Morocco, with a heavy focus on the Arab-Israeli conflict, the situation in Iraq, and Islamist movements throughout the region. His areas of expertise include the Arab-Israeli conflict, Palestinian politics, Iraq and North Africa. Previous positions held include special assistant to President Clinton for Arab-Israeli Affairs (1998-2001) and executive assistant to Samuel R. Berger, National Security Advisor (1996-1998).
The lecture will be the first in a series presented as part of the GOVT 499 course: The Israeli-Palestinian Peace Workshop, taught by Dr. Tina Kempin Reuter.
