Peter Warren Singer(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) - Peter Warren Singer, Senior Fellow and Director of the 21st Century Defense Initiative at the Brookings Institution, will present a lecture on his book Wired for War: The Robotics Revolution and Conflict in the 21st Century.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. in the Blechman Reading Room of the Paul and Rosemary Trible Library. It is free and open to the public. No reservation is required.

Peter Warren SingerDr. Singer is the youngest scholar named Senior Fellow in Brookings's 90-year history. In 2005, CNN named him to their "New Guard" List of the Next Generation of Newsmakers. Dr. Singer is considered one of the world's leading experts on changes in 21st century warfare. His newest book, Wired for War (Penguin, 2009), looks at the implications of robotics and other new technologies for war, politics, ethics, and law in the 21st century. Dr. Singer has worked in the Pentagon, and consulted for the departments of Defense and State, the CIA, and Congress.

Dr. Singer’s lecture is sponsored by Christopher Newport University’s Center for American Studies (CAS). CAS is an interdisciplinary initiative dedicated to fostering greater civic awareness by promoting classical liberal education in the area of American Studies, including American's philosophical roots, history, economic foundations, and national security.
