(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) - Christopher Newport University's Center for Service Learning & Social Entrepreneurship continues its series "People Who Change the World"  with a film screening and discussion on October 26, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the Music & Theatre Hall of CNU's Ferguson Center for the Arts.  The event is free and open to the public.  No reservation is required.

The film, "The Reckoning: The Battle for the International Criminal Court," will be introduced by Dr. Tina Kempin Reuter, a professor in the Department of Government and Public Affairs at CNU.  Dr. Reuter’s teaching interests include comparative and international politics, international law, peace studies, human rights, ethnic conflict and nationalism.  At present, she is teaching a service learning course on Genocide and her students are working with members of the Sudanese community of Newport News.

"The Reckoning" follows dynamic International Criminal Court Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo and his team over three years and across four continents. During this time, Moreno-Ocampo issues arrest warrants for the Lord’s Resistance Army leaders in Uganda, puts Congolese warlords on trial, shakes up the Colombian justice system and charges Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir with genocide in Darfur.  Like a deft thriller, "The Reckoning" keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.  Will the prosecutor succeed?  Will justice prevail?

The Center for Service Learning and Social Entrepreneurship is dedicated to providing students with opportunities to learn and serve in the local, national and international community.  For more information about its programs, please see its website http://service.cnu.edu.  For more information about this documentary series, please contact Dr. Roberta Rosenberg at 594-7149 or rrosenb@cnu.edu.
