as Part of CNU's "Food For Thought" Food Drive Campaign 2009

(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) - Christopher Newport University - in conjunction with the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula - will conduct a series of educational programs on Monday, November 2, 2009, in order to raise awareness about hunger in the Hampton Roads community and throughout the world. These event precedes the day-long "Food For Thought" Food Drive on Wednesday, November 4 at Christopher Newport University. Attendees are kindly asked to bring one can of food as their "entry fee" to the film screening, art installation and reception. All food collected will directly benefit the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula.

Documentary Film Screening and Panel Discussion
The Center for Service Learning & Social Entrepreneurship will present a screening of the award-winning documentary "Silent Killer: The Unfinished Campaign Against Hunger" at 7 p.m. in the concert hall of the Ferguson Center for the Arts. The one-hour documentary will be followed by a discussion and question and answer period featuring a panel of experts including CNU faculty, administrators from the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula and Feeding America.

Art Installation and "Hunger Reception"
The art installation and "hunger reception" will be held in the Ferguson Center for the Arts concert hall lobby preceding the film screening. Attendees are invited to arrive early to view the art installation entitled "The No Dinner Party," which includes 22 ceramic, three-dimensional plates and goblets set around a dinner table, with each setting describing an aspect of hunger and its impact. The installation was created by CNU students.
