Workshop on Intelligence and National Security

(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) - Christopher Newport University’s Center for American Studies and the Hampton Roads Chapter of The Norman Forde Association of Former Intelligence Officers will co-host the first annual “Workshop on Intelligence and National Security” on October 28, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop will focus on cyber security and vulnerabilities at home and abroad. All events will take place in CNU’s David Student Union ballroom. The workshop is free and open to the public. No reservation is required.

The keynote presentation will be given at 11 a.m. by Dr. Andy Purdy, former U.S. Cyber Security Czar and co-director of the International Cyber Center at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Dr. Purdy’s presentation is entitled: Cyber Security: Threats and Responses.

The workshop brings together prominent scholars and practitioners from across the country. Panel discussions and presentations will be made on topics related to cyber security vulnerabilities, cyber security as related to the business community, cyber security and civil rights, China and cyber warfare, and U.S. military planning and cyber warfare.

The workshop is co-sponsored by Christopher Newport University’s Center for American Studies (CAS). CAS is an interdisciplinary initiative dedicated to fostering greater civic awareness by promoting classical liberal education in the area of American Studies, including American's philosophical roots, history, economic foundations, and national security.
